Foo Fighters in Wellington

Went to see the Foo Fighters show last night at the Events Centre here in Wellington. What an amazing show! The last rock show I saw that was this good was Van Halen in 1984. The Foos were having so much fun on stage and the audience was getting into it, too. It’s quite a sight to see the majority of 5000 people pogo’ing simultaneously. There were many times during the show where seemingly everyone on the floor was bouncing in time to the rhythm.
Early in the show somebody threw his pants on stage. “Fat-ass motherfucker size pants, too!” was the quote from Dave Grohl, I believe. Dave said that was the first time he’s ever had men’s pants thrown at him while he’s on stage.
The Foos played for almost 2 hours, including Dave’s run around the audience. There were several nice touches like that, like when he gave his beer to someone in the crowd or when he genuinely complimented the audience for knowing all the words to pretty much all the songs. At the time, I remember thinking of Spinal Tap on the Simpsons: “We thought they knew how to rock in Shelbyville!” But the Foos didn’t come across like that at all. Dave and band win Honest Rockers of the year award, easily.
The picture here is of the cool lasers which were at eye level for me. So if I develop cataracts, you’ll know why.
