Kathy Villavicencio is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the CEO’s Office at UnboundEd. Prior to joining the organization, she led the Strategy Management Office for the tenth largest school district in the nation by spearheading high impact, cross-functional initiatives and serving as a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Cabinet.
As a first-generation college graduate and native of Miami, Florida, Kathy’s commitment to the success of young people began two decades ago when she taught middle school science as a New York City Teaching Fellow. Since then, she has worked in roles to address the educational debt owed to students from systematically marginalized groups and has held leadership positions at BES (build. excel. sustain.), The Posse Foundation, Miami Dade College, TNTP, The Children’s Trust, and the United Way of Miami-Dade. In addition, Kathy was a member of the 2018 cohort of The Broad Residency in Urban Education, a highly selective management development program for talented professionals, and in Summer 2023, she was chosen to serve on the NewSchools Venture Fund Racial Equity Council.
Kathy earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from The Broad Center, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Science in Teaching from Pace University. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. Kathy lives in Miami with her family, and is a proud alumna of Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
