A high-quality curriculum, also called high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), is one of the most effective tools for bringing grade-level, engaging, affirming, and meaningful — GLEAM® — instruction to life and accelerating student growth throughout a school system. But effectively adopting and implementing HQIM — as a systems change initiative — requires comprehensive planning and effective execution. During this two-day Summit, we’ll share the essential steps and strategies for conducting a thorough adoption or implementation, all while building buy-in for instructional change throughout your organization. Along the way, you’ll work with your team to develop the plans and tools you’ll need to launch your curriculum with confidence.

How We Organize the Learning

HQIM Adoption Pathway
Ready to choose your next curriculum? This two-day intensive gives you the foundation to make that decision with confidence that is grounded in both the technical aspects of adoption and the understanding of your students, your educators, and your vision of instruction.
We’ll provide a high-level overview of UnboundEd’s five-phase adoption process and help you build the key
pieces you need to get started. GLEAM anchors our work together: before you can select the right materials, your leadership team needs a shared, concrete vision of what strong teaching and learning looks like and a plan to let that vision drive every adoption decision. By the end, you’ll have a leadership team structure, a timeline, clear priorities, and early-stage plans for evaluating and piloting materials.Day 1 Learning Objectives:
- Establish the rationale for HQIM and its role in GLEAM Instruction
- Clarify the roles, responsibilities, and assets of the cross-functional district adoption leadership team
- Establish an adoption timeline
- Draft, or refine, a shared vision of instruction that will anchor the adoption process
Day 2 Learning Objectives:
- Practice identifying district adoption priorities
- Identify approaches to materials investigation and what follows it
- Finalize non-negotiables & set goals
- Design and align your district’s adoption timeline with UnboundEd’s five-phase adoption process & plan for other District Adoption Leadership Team (DALT) responsibilities

HQIM Implementation Pathway
If you’ve selected a new curriculum and are ready to put it to work, this pathway is for you. Over two days of learning, we’ll share a map to a successful first year of implementation. Then we’ll share the essential conditions for a strong implementation launch across your district and help you plan for each one. You’ll learn systems that promote improvement over time, plan for common challenges, and develop key deliverables.
Day 1 Learning Objectives:
- Establish the rationale for HQIM and its role in GLEAM Instruction
- Clarify the roles, responsibilities, and assets of the cross-functional district implementation team
- Analyze the current district capacity to support curriculum implementation
- Establish and communicate a shared vision and expectations for implementation
Day 2 Learning Objectives:
- Design and align the essential district systems that support a coherent curriculum launch across schools
- Develop measurable Year 1 goals and a plan to monitor progress and measure success
Who is the HQIM Summit for?
The UnboundEd HQIM Summit is for district and charter leaders and their curriculum teams planning or ready to adopt or implement new high-quality instructional materials (HQIM).
These pathways offer educators the opportunity to learn best practices in choosing and implementing HQIM, which includes bringing a variety of educational partners to the decision table. With that in mind, we ask that you bring a team of 3 or more educators from the district central office or charter leadership who are charged with leading the adoption or implementation process. For example, the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Chief Academic Officer, Director of Curriculum, Content Coaches or Directors, EL Specialists, and/or Site Leader representatives.
